Record worldwide sales for BMW

BMW Group achieved its highest sales for the first six months of the year, with a total of 954,521 vehicles delivered worldwide, an increase of six per cent over the same period last year (previous year 900,566).

Sales in June also reached an all-time high with 184,489 vehicles sold worldwide last month, an increase of 6.9% over the previous year (172,528).

Worldwide sales in June of BMW brand vehicles climbed 9.4% to 153,075 units (previous year 139,879). A total of 804,248 BMW brand vehicles (previous year 747,089) have been delivered to customers worldwide since the start of the year – an increase of 7.7 per cent.

The BMW 3 Series was one of the brand's growth drivers in the first half year with 236,215 units sold, an increase of 21.8% over the same period last year (previous year 193,996).

BMW X1 sales in the first six months totalled 79,061 vehicles, an increase of 22.8 per cent compared to last year (previous year 64,387). Demand for the BMW X3 remained strong; sales climbed to 77,959 vehicles in the first half year (previous year 74,099, up 5.2 per cent). BMW 5 Series sales reached 169,593 units (previous year 166,097, up 2.1 per cent).

BMW 6 Series sales climbed no less than 35.4% to 14,012 units (previous year 10,345).

Both UK-based operations however witnessed sales declines. Mini sales in the six months fell two per cent to 148,798 units (151,877 last year).

Sales of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in the first half of the year fell 7.8 per cent to 1,475 units (previous year 1,600).

BMW Motorrad achieved an all-time high in sales for the first six months of the year as sales climbed 9.7 per cent to 64,941 vehicles delivered (previous year 59,189).

In Asia, the BMW Group delivered 272,100 vehicles in the first six months of 2013 and reported a growth of 14.4 per cent compared to the same period in 2012 (previous year 237,876).

The Americas posted gains of 9.7 per cent in the first six months with a total of 213,473 vehicles sold to customers; sales in the previous year were 194,620. This performance was driven mainly by sales in the US with sales of 172,787 vehicles in the first six months compared to 158,563 in the same period in 2012.


In Europe, BMW Group sales remained flat at last year's level of 436,483 vehicles delivered to customers (previous year 437,092) in the first half of the year.
