G&W set to reveal its secrets

Grainger & Worrall (G&W), perhaps the world’s leading specialist in casting compacted graphite iron (CGI) prototype engine components, is to open its doors to motorsport professionals from across the UK on 18 June.

The Bridgnorth, Shropshire company is to host the Motorsport Industry Association’s (MIA) Summer Open Day.

The event will give delegates unprecedented access to the automotive specialist’s prestigious high-performance engineering facilities, which manufactures next-generation engine components for many world championship-winning vehicles.

So secret has been some of G&W’s work that even now some of the most challenging CGI components it has cast in this high-strenght iron material cannot yet be discussed in public. Ford has been one of its most high-profile customers but it has other un-named customers far across the seas.

As well as seeing how G&W uses 3D digital sand printing and computer tomography in modern motorsport component development, attendees will also have the opportunity to attend a seminar showcasing how specialist powertrain structures are designed and developed, as well as see a working Williams F1 car; for which Grainger & Worrall has supplied class-leading structural castings.

There will also be an opportunity for networking, as well as the chance to see a selection of the vehicles for which Grainger & Worrall supplies castings, light-weighting and prototyping solutions.

“We’re delighted to be hosting this year’s MIA Summer Open Day,” commented Edward Grainger, director at Grainger & Worrall.

“As well as offering visitors the opportunity to learn about the innovative processes we use to develop class-leading solutions for some of the world’s top motorsport teams, the day will include a VIP guided tour of our award-winning facilities.”

Chris Aylett, chief executive of the MIA, added: “As a leading supplier to some of the world’s most best-known motorsport and niche vehicle manufacturers, Grainger & Worrall was a natural choice for hosting our summer event.”
