BMW lifts 2-litre diesel power/torque

BMW claims a new 2-litre engine has joined its 2 Series Coupé line-up

BMW claims its 2 Series Coupé has again raised the bar in efficiency and dynamics with the introduction of its new four-cylinder diesel.

The new 2-litre diesel power engine is a member of the new BMW Group engine family. It features the latest BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, achieves a maximum power output of 190bhp and 400Nm torque.

With a standard six-speed manual gearbox, the BMW 220d Coupé returns an average fuel consumption of 64.2 mile/gal and a CO2 output of 115g/km.

Teamed with with the eight-speed automatic transmission, the corresponding levels improve to 68.9 mile/gal and 107g/km respectively, an improvement of 10g/km over the outgoing engine, but still not below the magic 100g/km

This latest version of BMW’s four-cylinder diesel offers an additional 6bhp and a further 20Nm torque than the outgoing engine.

Acceleration from zero to 62mile/h has improved marginally to 7.1s for the manual transmission and 7s with the automatic.

Engineers have trimmed 2kg from the engine’s weight and made improvements in acoustic comfort and response times for Auto Start-Stop.
